Romain Tornay a grandi dans les alpes valaisannes, en Suisse. D'abord attiré par les sommets enneigés, il découvre ensuite l'immensité du Grand Nord. C'est ainsi qu'il débute la photographie afin d'illustrer plus de trente voyages dans les contrées septentrionales. Toujours en autonomie, parfois en solitaire, il a parcouru des centaines de kilomètres au Groenland, en Alaska, en Islande, au Svalbard, en Laponie, à pied, à ski, en traîneau à chiens ou à la voile.

Ses photographies ont été récompensées lors de plusieurs concours internationaux. Aussi, Romain Tornay a étudié la biologie à l'université de Genève et s'est spécialisé en sciences de l'environnement à l'école polytechnique de Lausanne. Il a enseigné le ski, le snowboard, l'alpinisme et l'escalade en Valais et enseigne aujourd'hui la biologie et la photographie à Genève.

Romain Tornay grew up in the Alps of Valais, Switzerland. First attracted by the snow-capped peaks, he then discovered the immensity of the Far North. This is how he began photography in order to illustrate more than thirty trips to the northern regions. Always independently, sometimes alone, he has traveled hundreds of kilometers in Greenland, Alaska, Iceland, Svalbard, Lapland, on foot, on skis, dog sled or sail. His photographs have won awards in several international competitions. Also, Romain Tornay studied biology at the University of Geneva and specialized in environmental sciences at the Polytechnic School of Lausanne. He taught skiing, snowboarding, mountaineering and climbing in Valais and now teaches biology and photography in Geneva.
